End of PIX System Celebration
It’s weird. During the 49ers Superbowl playoff run, my CEO of PIX and I were chatting over slack about the 49ers and how they were doing. Li asked who I was chatting with on the weekend and after I told her, she said, “Ask him if he is going to sell the company?” I told her that’s not a question I can ask. And in particular, I remember distinctly that he said previously that he wouldn’t sell the company because running the company was something he really enjoyed.
Then we find out in late February, early March that indeed PIX System was purchased by none other than Autodesk. The 3D CAD software company? Really? It turns out that Autodesk had expanded past the Autocad software and into the Media and Entertainment space. They had a bunch of modeling and rendering software and they were looking into expanding further into entertainment. They also previously purchased a competitor to PIX called Moxion.
The news was shocking to say the least. It also meant that only some of us were going to Autodesk while others were laid off. We had a last get-together for some of the folks in Southern California. I had to say goodbye to some of my coworkers of 13 years!
